On to Pop Art, Brushes, Gradients, Symbols...

Brushes, Gradients, Symbols...

Hello all!

Illustrator first -

Try the Gradients, Brushes and Symbol sprayer - Always make sure you have a path selected in order to do this, or you are creating a new one with the pen tool or brush tool. If you want to make a new brush:

- Make a path or some kind of artwork that you would want to save as a brush. - Select and OBJECT - GROUP with selection tool.
- Drag and drop into Brushes palette
- Select Brush Type (art)
- Name it and select your Options.

Photoshop -

Let's see how Photoshop does with gradients and brushes!

Downloading/New brushes:
- Avoid Large File Sizes!!!
- The larger, or more pixels a brush set has, the longer it will take Photoshop to process and can even overload or "freeze" the program.

Be very, very careful what you click on!!! We'll talk in class, but proceed with caution.

Once you've downloaded or have new brushes:
- Select Brush Tool
- Bring up Brush Tool Picker
- Select Palette Menu and Select Load Brushes.
- The new Brushes should now be in the Brush Picker Palette.

To select or edit brushes:
- Go to Edit -- Presets -- Preset Manager
- Save or Delete, Options

Next Steps, Combining Illustrator and Photoshop, Pop Art!

Going into week two, we will start in Illustrator and remind ourselves of the wonder that is the Pen Tool and making Paths.  We will also be using our own images for our 1st project - Pop Art!

Your images are below - You may want to play around with any editing skills you need to in Photoshop to get the image where you want it (Unsharp mask, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, Delete background, etc...) but throw it into Illustrator and try the Live Trace on yourself, a closeup of your face, Expand the image so that you are now a PATH, use the white arrow to change PATH points, try to highlight individual areas of your image and try the gradient, color fill, etc.

EXPLORE, DON'T GET FRUSTRATED, HAVE FUN!
