Springville Art Show!!!

44th Annual Utah All-State High School Art Show

February 6 - March 25, 2016

The Springville Museum of Art and our sponsors are proud to be fostering original visual art among Utah teenagers by providing a professional forum for student artists with what has been hailed as the best show of its kind in the Mountain West. For many students this exhibition will be their first taste of competition, something they will encounter in their future art careers in college and later in the professional world.

This year, we had 979 artworks entered into the show from 95 schools across the state, and from those, 328 pieces were selected for the exhibition. This show is extremely competitive and we commend all participants for their creativity and dedication to the arts.  This year, in efforts to help students and teachers who may have questions about the jury process, we asked our jurors to compile their thoughts from jurying this year’s show. We encourage teachers to share this information with their students.

3d Submissions, Exercises and What's Next? Real World Art Show- Springville!!!

Hello class! Welcome to the New Year!

As we continue our exercises, let's turn to filters. We've done a ton with them and Layer Styles, and we'll continue with that, but let's not look at the Filter Gallery in Photoshop, but some of the possibly lesser used Filters. Some of these can change the emphasis of the image, the direction the eye travels in an image, or a Filter that ties in the entire image! Try these today along with the color splash technique using the Color Replacement Tool and our Selection Tools in order to create different images. Some that can help or work well - Gaussian Blur is a popular one, especially with wedding or portrait photographers, try it with a Selection and then Blur the edge of the Selection. Noise>Add Noise, Despeckle, Dust and Scratches are good ones and Pixelate>Color Halftone can give you that Pop Art Comic Effect. Play around with these with images of your choosing - What works, what doesn't, what do you like and want to incorporate?

Lastly, I will announce our next real world project, more to follow...

A short week this week, let's start with some exercises and working with different images.  We are also ready to incorporate more of the vector design awesomeness of Illustrator, but let's start with a simple trick, known as color splash.
This first image was taken in Beijing.  See what you can do with the Color Replacement Brush with your colors being the default Black and White.  Where you leave color will be where the emphasis is:

We will then combine this technique with our Selection Tools to create movement and interest:
